Punchline

Balloon left to wind,

Swept away, released to sky

Held on for longer.

This blue balloon given to the wind

Was swept away and sucked up by the sky

I expected to hold on for a little more time.

It seems like adults are complicit in the

Hi-How-are-you-fine-thanks-and-you,

lie-and-smile do-around.

Nobody ever lets you in on the big joke,

You just figure it out and then become

complicit too.  The massive in-joke system of

Flashed white teeth and pink bra straps,

Danced or didn’t,

Spoke out or held up.

The big joke.  You already know it.

You can laugh at it or not,

it’s not really very funny but

If you can’t laugh at it,

You’ll probably die in the end.

You will anyway.  That’s the joke.  Get it?
