You Don’t Need to Come Home

Although I would like to see you,

You don’t need to come home.

Even though I am terrified you will

Fade into fact if you die,

You shouldn’t come home.

When I was younger, watching baseball,

I would, with my mind and fandom,

Push the ball into the strike zone so that

Tony Gwynn would have an easier time

Hitting a home run.

He had the ability, I just wanted to help.

I’m sending you bullet vests and invisibility cloaks

You don’t need to come home yet.

You sure as heck need to be able to though, and

Don’t you forget it.
